Welcome to The Shakti Academy. Here you will have unlimited access to a wide range of videos designed to help you unlock the full potential of your Shakti Mat. Most people use their Shakti Mat exclusively on their back and feet, but this video series will inspire you to use your mat in new and interesting ways to achieve the same results on different areas of your body.
Your instructor is Perla Bucknell. Perla has a degree in
Human Kinetics, is a yoga teacher and has extensive experience in the fitness industry. Perla has been utilising The Shakti Mat in sessions with her clients in Christchurch for over two years.
The Shakti Academy is your opportunity for one-on-one sessions with Perla whenever and wherever you need them. You will be surprised by the number of uses your mat has other than simply laying on your back.
Before you begin...
- The purpose of each video is to introduce you to the posture. Once familiar you can practice alongside the video, pausing when needed, or practice in your own time. We encourage you to begin with 2 minutes and progress in intervals of 5 minutes.
- As you hold the posture the discomfort eases until there is only warmth. If the sensation of the exercise is too uncomfortable, begin with a layer of thin clothing on the first few sessions (a thermal top is perfect) until you are comfortable practicing against bare skin.
- Progress slowly, repeating the exercise daily until you are comfortable. Only then do we recommend advancing to the next difficulty.
